Meet Justin, Project & Quality Assurance Manager at BenCo
Justin Nolt works directly with our customers, managing the engineering and design of custom parts through our metal fabrication shop. What most people don’t see, however, is the process work Justin does behind the scenes to ensure BenCo always produces the highest quality parts.

How did you get your start at BenCo?
I started out as a BenCo customer. I was working with a company that BenCo supplied parts to and I got to know the owners and the team. BenCo was one of our most critical vendors and we worked well together. So, when I had the chance to join BenCo, I knew it would be the right fit.
What’s your role within the company?
I began as a project manager with an emphasis on design and engineering. I later found an opportunity to streamline a few of our processes and eventually ended up taking the lead with our enterprise resource planning (ERP) system implementation. Once the ERP system was in place, our ISO certification became an extension of that, so I took on the management of our ISO standards as well. I helped BenCo achieve its ISO certification in 2017.
How has the business changed now that these systems are in place?
We’ve grown a lot as a company over the past several years. To maintain our high levels of quality and safety through this growth, we knew we needed a more formalized process. Now that our ERP and ISO systems are in place, I run our monthly management meeting where we look at three quality metrics – non-conformances, on-time shipments and customer returns. We watch for trends and address any issues immediately. It’s given us incredible insight into the business and set a whole new standard for the level of quality we deliver.
What do you enjoy the most about working at BenCo?
Being given the opportunity to manage to get our EPR system up and achieving our ISO certification has been two favorite challenges. They were a lot of work – especially getting our ISO certification completed. And, I still do a lot of project management and design. I like the balance of the creative work and the process work I’m involved with.
I’ve always loved the type of work that helps make other people’s jobs easier. Through systems management, I’m helping our team get quality work done efficiently. As a project manager, I’m helping our customers figure out how to design the best parts for projects. And in both roles, I’m directly impacting the quality of our work which has been the most rewarding part of what I do.
And, when you’re not at BenCo, what are you most likely to be doing?
I like to run. It’s both physical and mental, and you can get into a different zone. Otherwise, I’m with my three kids and my wife. We spend a lot of time together as a family on projects and traveling.
