5 Benefits of CNC Machining
At BenCo, we’re more than just a cutting and fabrication shop, we’re a PA CNC machining service too. Although you may have heard the term before, you might be wondering what it is and why it can be beneficial when making parts for your products.
What is CNC machining?
It’s a manufacturing process that uses software and automation to precisely control machine tools including grinders, mills, routers, shapers, and lathes. This allows a solid block of metal, or a solid rod of metal to be shaped into component parts by precisely removing layers of metal from the original slug.
What are the Benefits of CNC Machining over Conventional Machining?
1. Efficiency
With just one programmer operating multiple machining centers, productivity is massively increased over old-school milling and turning techniques. CNC lathes and milling machines can do the job faster and can achieve results workers using conventional machines may have difficulty accomplishing. With software that allows the simulation of a part or product, CNC machines can also save time and money by eliminating the need to create a physical model or prototype.
2. Versatility
When a manufacturing job calls for making a large amount of metal or plastic parts in complex shapes, advanced CNC milling and turning centers, complete with multiple axes, can adjust to difficult angles and achieve complex geometries.
3. Consistency
CNC mills and lathes can duplicate a design and produce a consistent result over and over again. Every manufactured part will be the same – even on production runs with thousands or tens of thousands of parts.
4. Reliability
Unlike human tool operators, CNC machines don’t get sick or need to take lunch or bathroom breaks. They can run 24/7, only requiring downtime for occasional maintenance.
5. Adaptability
CNC machining centers can have features and functionality added to them by updating their software. Rather than rapidly becoming out-of-date and obsolete, they can evolve and gain new capabilities to adjust to customers’ changing needs.
CNC Machining at BenCo Technology
At BenCo Technology and our sister company BenCo Machine; our CNC machining service makes complex parts and components quickly and accurately. Read on to learn a little bit more about our current suite of machining equipment. And contact us today to request a quote on your next project!
· 22-ton CNC Turret Punch
Our CNC turret punch performs embossing, slitting, and punching. It has a ¼ inch plate capacity and can make tight perforation patterns. It allows nesting of various shapes and sizes, as well. We also have a CNC machining center that allows for high-speed, precise machining on small parts. Its punch press, which has a range of 15 to 50 tons, uses a custom-built die set or can use a die set supplied by the customer.
· CNC Lathes
BenCo has Mazak Nexus QuickTurn CNC turning centers with a direct-drive turret and rotary tool milling spindle. They can perform processes on parts up to 23 inches in length and 13 inches in diameter.
· CNC Machining Centers
We also have Mazak Nexus vertical machining centers that provide exceptional versatility and efficiency with their 12,000 RPM spindle speeds and 30- or 48-tool magazines that change tools automatically. Able to accommodate parts up to 47 inches long by 26 inches wide by 18 inches high, they are equipped with a durable MX Hybrid Roller Guide System to ensure long-term accuracy.
